I would like to begin with a word of thanks, what we sometimes call the words before all else. Thank you all for your support of EarthWalk this year, we have all been learning and growing a lot together. I am thankful for the early sunrises, and the bird song that greets the morning while I watch for new spring arrivals and work in the garden. I am so thankful for spring time, and how it brings all my friends back together outdoors: human, plant, bird and animal.
It’s a great time of year to celebrate, and we’d like to do that here in Plainfield with a contradance on June 8th. It will be held in the Plainfield Town Hall from 7:00 to 10:30 PM. There will also be a silent auction, with bidding beginning at 6:30.
Besides being a celebration, this event is also a fundraiser for scholarship money at EarthWalk. One way to help is by contributing to our silent auction, where you can share your gift with EarthWalk and the highest bidder. We’d like to encourage creativity in silent auction offerings. Examples could include a class, a mentoring session in an area of your interest (Birding? Gardening? Wild edibles? Weaving? Blacksmithing? Naturalist?), a piece of artwork, a handicraft, or session in a skill you might have. It is a way for us to join together as a community and offer our gifts and a celebration to the wider community.
We are looking for a sponsor (or a few!) for the event to offset the cost. If anyone is interested in helping sponsor the event, or knows of a possible business sponsor we could contact, we would greatly appreciate the help; the approximate need for the event is $300. All the rest that we raise will go into the scholarship fund.
We also need volunteers on the night of the contra-dance, from 4:30 PM until 11:00 PM. We’ll need 2 people to set up the auction from 4:30-6:30, then one person at the door from 6:30-8:30, one person at the door from 8:30-10:30 (if we have enough volunteers, we can take shorter shifts), and four people to clean up with us after the event, which will be from 10:30-11:00.
